Overview

Why apply online?

By answering a set of questions about your business, we'll offer you products and services which are most suitable for your needs in accepting payments.

Our secure application enables you to apply at your own convenience and can provide you with a decision in principle. This saves all the normal paperwork allowing you to be up and running much quicker.

Can I apply online?

You can apply online if all of the following apply to you:

  • You have an existing business bank account
  • You take less than £600k in card transactions
  • You only want to apply for one retail outlet or website
  • You are a sole trader / partnership / limited company
  • You are an authorised owner, partner, director or company secretary
  • Your business / company is UK based and all owners / directors are resident in the UK

What you'll need to apply

Personal details of the current principals of your business, including address details going back 3 years. By principals we mean:

  • Limited Companies – Two directors or one director and the Company Secretary
  • Partnerships – Up to four partners
  • Sole traders – The business owner

However, before you start, please read and confirm your acceptance of our Conditions of Application:

  • When you select to apply using the secure application process, the information you provide will be stored and used to check your eligibility for one of our products. We may use this information to contact you about your application.
  • If you decide not to continue with the application after the first stage, we will hold this information for 90 days. If your application is unsuccessful we will hold this information for 1 year. After both of these periods the information will be deleted from our systems.
  • Your information will not be used for any other purpose at this stage.
  • If your application is successful the use of your information will then be covered under the Terms and Conditions of that product.
  • In checking whether you are eligible for a product we will need to carry out certain checks and searches about you with credit reference agencies. The credit reference agency will check your details against the information to which they have access and will keep a record of any search we make. The credit reference agency may use these details in the future to assist other lenders organisations when they the agency assesses applications from you. Records of any searches made to verify your identity will only be used by others for verification purposes.
  • Where you provide personal and financial information relating to others for the purpose of opening or administering your account, you confirm that you have their consent or are otherwise entitled to provide this information to us and authorise us to search, link and record information at credit reference agencies on you and the joint applicant(s).
  • If false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud is suspected, details may be passed to fraud prevention agencies as well as credit reference agencies.
  • By completing and submitting this application, you confirm that you are a representative of your business whose name appears on the bank mandate and who can, either alone or with other(s), authorise payments and/or sign cheques on behalf of the business.
  • By completing and submitting this application, you confirm that you do not trade with any of the following countries and that your company is not registered in or has an owner based in these countries: Cuba; Iran; Iraq; Liberia; Myanmar; North Korea; Sudan; Syria.

Calls may be monitored or recorded for security and quality purposes. Calls made to 0800 numbers are free if made from a UK landline.

For BT business customers, calls to 0844 numbers will cost no more than 5p a minute, min call charge of 5.9p (current at August 2009). The price on non-BT phone lines may be different.
