Driving efficiency

A focus on efficiency

Cost-cutting has become the watchword. The Government's Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) has had the expected negative impact on the funding available for most public services. And the effects are being felt by not-for-profit organisations too. Which is why now, more than ever, achieving greater efficiency is the priority for many in this sector.

Public sector

Pressure to reduce operating costs is particularly difficult to respond to for those organisations that rely heavily on cash or cheque payments. And the same goes for organisations that use call centres to receive payments, where admin requirements are high. One effective way to reduce costs is by opening up new channels to take payments.

Not-for-profit sector

Charities and 'third sector' organisations have also been hit hard by the spending cuts. Although donations from the public have held up surprisingly well, the expectation is for administration costs to be kept to a minimum. And there's been a notable fall in donations from younger donors, aged 18-24.

Ways we can help

  • Increase efficiencies through a bespoke payments solution, offsetting revenue reductions and helping to meet cost-cutting targets
  • Open up new income streams and make payments more convenient
  • Provide online payment solutions to appeal to younger donors

Simple multi-channel payment options

Our terminals and virtual solutions work across a wide variety of channels, giving you greater scope when accepting payments.

Quicker with contactless

Our contactless technology not only speeds up payments, but can help you move towards a cashless environment. Allowing payments of £15 or under to be accepted in less than half a second, it's particularly well-suited to universities and colleges who wish to achieve 'cashless campus' status. And local authorities can benefit from contactless parking opportunities.

In person

Process sales, refunds, and purchases with cashback with our colour-display terminals. Our classic terminals are perfect for accepting payments from a traditional till point, while our portable terminals, usable up to 100m from the base give you the freedom to take the terminal to the payee.

On the move

Our mobile terminals use a GPRS system that finds the strongest signal from three networks to accept card payments almost anywhere, making them an ideal solution for fundraisers and conferences.

Card-not-present payments

Our range of ePDQ solutions offer a reliable, safe and fully PCI DSS compliant way to accept card payments online, over the phone or by mail order around the clock, for services such as council tax, fines, permits and licences. You can handle settlement and keep on top of sales through online Management Information reports and regular statements. Online, our e-commerce solutions integrates seamlessly into your existing website payment pages. Or use our simple web-based virtual terminal to accept payments over the phone or by mail, with real-time authorisation.

International payments

Barclaycard SmartPay is a PCI DSS compliant online payment gateway for pan-European transactions and payment processing services. Simple and secure, it allows you to offer localised payment pages and payment options for the international market – a perfect solution for overseas students, for example.

Open up new income opportunities

If your organisation has a retail outlet – a charity shop, or staff café, for example – or processes transactions from foreign cards, our additional services can provide new sources of income.

Dynamic Currency Conversion

When selling to foreign visitors or students, Dynamic Currency Conversion benefits both you and those customers. They'll see their purchases in up to 21 local currencies, accounting for 87% of foreign card turnover¹ as well as sterling, and choose which one to pay with. And you'll receive a share of the foreign exchange commission.

Prepaid solutions

There's plenty of flexibility with pre-paid cards. They can be offered as traditional gift cards, encouraging new custom. Or they can be used in a more bespoke way – for example, allowing end-users to pay in advance for products and services they regularly purchase from you, or for controlling spend on a bursary card.

Mobile phone top-ups

Another potential income stream for retail outlets is commission earned on mobile phone top-ups processed through your terminal. With 62% of all UK mobiles being pay-as-you-go², top-ups can be a powerful way to boost income, increase footfall and drive loyalty.
