Getting started

To start accepting payments online using our hosted payment pages, you need an e-commerce store with a shopping cart or order management system. If you don't have HTML or web coding experience, then a qualified web developer or agency should implement it on your behalf.

You can apply using our standard application process or, if your turnover's expected to be less than £300,000 a year, our En@ble fast track application will speed up the process.

A step-by-step guide to applying for ePDQ CPI

  1. Apply using our standard application process to start accepting online payments within 2-3 weeks. Or submit an En@ble fast track application and your business could be trading online in just a few days.
  2. Once we've processed your application, you'll receive a welcome letter with your next steps and a URL where you can collect your documentation.
  3. We email you to confirm your login details.
  4. Then for security reasons, we ask you to call us for your password.
  5. You are then ready to start integrating ePDQ CPI into your system and carrying out tests.
  6. When you're ready to go live, simply complete an account activation form and we make the switch.
  7. Finally, we send you a confirmation email to let you know your store's ready to start accepting card payments.

How it works

Using ePDQ CPI

Once you've signed up to our secure end-to-end payment system, we take care of your entire online payment process, on behalf of your business. The process from start to finish is as follows:

  1. A customer visits your website, makes a selection and is ready to pay.
  2. Your website automatically re-directs the customer and their transaction details to our secure payment pages.
  3. Once the customer has entered their card details, our ePDQ server checks if your business has signed up for Internet Authentication.
  4. If it has, the customer's card issuer's authentication page is displayed. Here, your customer has to enter a secure password or pin to verify their identity.
  5. Details of the transaction are passed onto the customer's card issuer to be verified.
  6. The transaction result is passed back to your website, letting you know if the payment's been accepted or declined.
  7. The cardholder's shown the result.
  8. With the transaction complete, the customer is returned to your website.

Shortly after this, payment is credited to your account and you can access the transaction details online using our Store Administration Tool.

Calls may be monitored or recorded for security and quality purposes. Calls made to 0800 numbers are free if made from a UK landline.

For BT customers, calls to 0845 numbers cost no more than 4p a minute, with a min. call charge of 5.9p; calls to 0870 numbers cost no more than 8p a minute with a min. call charge of 5.9p; and calls to 0844 numbers cost no more than 5p a minute with a min. call charge of 5.9p. Prices for calls made from non-BT phone lines may differ. All prices are current at July 2009.
