Overview
Travel accident cover and enhanced travel insurance
All business credit cards from Barclaycard come with added insurance cover to protect your business in the event of unforeseen circumstances. The cover varies slightly between gold and platinum Visa cards, and MasterCard credit cards as detailed below.
Gold Visa and MasterCard credit cards
Our credit cards come with free personal travel accident cover of up to £100,000 for a maximum of four people, including the cardholder, while in transit. All you need to do to validate this service is use your card to pay for the full trip.
Since personal travel accident cover isn't comprehensive travel insurance and only provides cover for bodily injury leading to death or permanent total disability while using public transport on a business trip outside your home country, we suggest you consider additional cover.
Platinum Visa credit cards
We offer enhanced travel insurance for platinum cardholders, which includes personal travel accident cover. All you need to do to validate this service is use your card to pay the cost of the full trip. Platinum cardholders can be covered for the following while on a business trip:
- Emergency medical expenses – up to £2 million worldwide
- Personal liability – up to £1 million
- Evacuation and repatriation expenses – up to £1 million
- Legal expenses – up to £25,000
- Cancellation – up to £3,000
- Personal baggage replacement – up to £1,200
- Hospital benefit – £25 a day (for a maximum of 30 days or £750)
- Lost money – replacement up to the value of £500
- Personal accident benefit – £250,000 during your trip when travelling on public transport, and £25,000 at any other time while you're there.
Cardholder misuse insurance for Visa & MasterCard credit cards
Should you find that one of your cardholders has used their card inappropriately and you're unable to get them to reimburse you, you could be covered for up to £15,000 per cardholder, and up to £1,000,000 each year for your business as a whole. This cover also extends to contract and temporary staff.
You can claim for all fraudulent transactions that took place in the 75 days before you discovered the fraud, and the 14 days after you notify us.
Purchase protection for Visa & MasterCard credit cards
Buy eligible goods worth over £50 with a Visa or MasterCard credit card and they will be protected against accidental damage, loss or theft for the first 90 days, subject to an excess of £50. If any of these occur in that period, you should notify us within 45 days of the incident, and the police within 36 hours.
You're covered for:
- Any single item up to £3,000
- Any one occurrence up to £6,000, for each and every card
- An aggregate of £12,000
Extended warranty cover
For most purchases worth over £50 that have been paid for in full on your business credit cards, you're entitled to an additional 12 months cover on top of the manufacturer's warranty, up to a maximum 24 months. This cover is subject to an excess of £50.
Gold Visa and MasterCard credit cards
- Individual items covered up to a maximum of £2,500
- Individual claims or occurrences limited to a maximum of £5,000
- Maximum claim covered per cardholder in any one year is £10,000
Platinum Visa credit cards
- Individual items covered up to a maximum of £3,000
- Individual claims or occurrences limited to a maximum of £6,000
- Maximum claim covered per cardholder in any one year is £12,000
Card Protection Plan (CPP)
You can register your personal and business cards, passports and driving licenses with our Card Protection Plan. For an annual fee of £29 per cardholder, or £70 for three years, you're covered should your cards be lost or stolen. The service will cancel and replace all of the cardholders' cards with just one call, and insure them for up to £100,000 against fraud.
Card Protection Plan also includes:
- Reporting and organising replacements for all missing cards on your behalf
- Emergency cash advances of up to £3000
- Arrangements for emergency travel documentation and travel tickets
To use this service you need to register your gold or platinum Visa, or MasterCard, along with any other personal cards or valuables.
Once registered, if you should lose your cards or they're stolen, contact us immediately so we can make the necessary arrangements to have them replaced.
Online payment and fraud protection
We're committed to making it safer for our customers to shop online with:
- Online protection – we continually monitor online transactions to help identify any suspicious activity and protect you from fraud. And if an unauthorised transaction takes place, your business won't be liable.
- Barclaycard Secure provides online payment security in the same way as chip and PIN, when you buy from participating retailers, by requesting a secure password each time you use your card to pay online.

MasterCard identity protection assistance
Protect your business against identity theft
MasterCard credit cards come with Identity Protection Assistance, which includes a range of solutions to help guard your business, such as:
- A helpline for advice on preventing, detecting and resolving identity theft
- Access to your personal or business credit report
- Credit report monitoring – an early indicator if you suspect that your identity is being used fraudulently.
We provide two Identity Protection Assistance schemes – one for sole traders or partnerships and one for limited companies. The benefits for each are the same with the exception of credit file access cover, which is detailed below. They both include a range of benefits, from protective registration to credit monitoring, and dedicated advice.

Identity theft advice line
Your MasterCard gives you access to a confidential helpline for advice on preventing,
detecting and resolving identity theft. And if you do become a victim of identity theft,
the advice line can guide you through exactly what you need to do.
Protective registration
Protective registration provides additional protection if you suspect your
identity could be compromised. We will alert banks, building societies and insurance
companies to your concerns so that extra verification checks can be carried out,
to ensure that any changes to your account are genuine. This service is provided
in association with CIFAS.

Unlimited access to your personal credit report for sole traders and partnerships
If you suspect your identity is being used fraudulently, you must act immediately. One indication of fraudulent activity is a change in your credit rating. We provide unlimited access to your credit report through Experian and will track your credit history and text or email you with any significant changes, allowing you to act quickly.
Up to four company credit reports per year for limited companies
Early detection and immediate action is vital if you suspect that your identity is being used fraudulently. One way of detecting fraudulent activity is through a change in your credit rating. Make use of access to your business' credit and legal information stored at Companies House, plus business credit reports provided by Experian. You can access up to four company credit reports per year, as well as benefiting from continuous monitoring and reporting.
We'll alert you if someone applies for credit in your business' name or if any changes are made to your information at Companies House.

To be eligible for Commercial Identity Protection Assistance you must be over 18, a UK resident and operate a limited company registered in the UK with a turnover of less than £1 million per annum
