Imagine trying to bring up a family on less than £200 a week.

That's the situation faced by 44% of single parent families in Britain. Nearly 50% of children living with one parent are poor, compared to 21% of those living with two adults.

Horizons has set up four major projects to give single parents the support, information and skills they need to make positive choices:

Advice and Information

Debt is a major issue for many single parents. Horizons funds debt counselling through face to face sessions and drop-in surgeries to help single parents take control of their finances.

Funding for essentials at school

Horizons provides funds for school uniforms and extra curricula activities such as school trips, so that the children of single parents don't miss out on a decent education.

Adult education and training in new skills

Horizons contributes towards adult education and training courses so that single parents can learn new skills to improve their job prospects – and their self-esteem.

Horizons provides work experience, practical advice on childcare options and tax entitlements and vital emotional support to enable single parents to support themselves and their children.
