Shopping online is a marvellous invention. Unfortunately, thieves think so too. Internet fraud - whereby criminals intercept customers' online transactions to obtain their credit card or bank details – is a serious concern.
So we've taken steps to put your mind at rest.
Barclaycard Secure - extra safety online
Barclaycard Secure uses the latest technology from "Verified by Visa" and "MasterCard SecureCode" to protect your card against unauthorised use when you shop online at participating retailers.
How does it work?
You're probably already familiar with Chip and PIN, as a payment method whereby instead of signing a receipt, you tap a secret four-digit number into a keypad. Great idea, isn't it? We like it so much that we've adapted it for online shopping:
- You choose a password for your card
- When you next make an online purchase with a participating store, you'll be asked to enter this password during the secure sales process
- Your transaction will be authorised immediately
This service is completely free and you can register online now. Just follow the links below to register, log in or find details on participating stores:

Watch out for invitations
If you haven’t already registered you will be asked to register while making an online purchase with a participating store.
This is usually completely safe. However, it's a good idea to check that they are a member of the "Verified by Visa" or "MasterCard SecureCode" schemes before you go ahead, by clicking on the appropriate Visa or Mastercard link above and then clicking "Participating Stores".
