Helping you clear your balance sooner

The longer you take to pay off your balance on your business credit card, the more interest you’ll end up paying. But by paying a little more each month, or by fixing your monthly repayments, you can clear your balance sooner and pay less in interest.

Why paying the minimum will cost you more

Your minimum payment is the smallest amount you must pay back each month to avoid late fees and charges. It’s based on how much you currently owe on your card, known as your balance, and your annual interest rate.

As your balance goes down, so does your minimum payment amount, meaning you pay less towards clearing your balance.

It could take much longer than expected for you to pay off your balance and you’ll end up paying more interest.

Accruing credit card debt and interest could negatively impact your credit score.

The benefits of moving to a fixed payment

A fixed payment is an amount that stays the same each month, whether your balance goes up or down. You can choose what the fixed payment is and set up a Direct Debit so it goes out around the same time each month, but it must be more than the minimum amount shown on your last statement.

As your balance goes down, your fixed payment stays the same, so you could reduce your balance quicker.

You’ll also know exactly how much you’re paying each month, which is handy if you’re setting budgets or reviewing your finances.

Paying off your credit card debt and avoiding interest could also help improve your credit score.

Let's compare a minimum payment to a fixed amount

This example shows how much interest it would cost and how much time it would take to clear a balance of £2,500 on a card with a 28.9% annual interest rate.

Please note: this is a guide calculated on approximate minimum payment rates, which vary by provider and product. We assume no additional spend on the card, no fees are incurred, and the same static interest rate is paid on all balances.

Now's the time to make a change

If you haven’t already, we recommend setting up a Direct Debit for a fixed amount. Your monthly payment will be taken automatically to remove the risk of late fees and charges being added to your business card balance.

A one-time payment could also dramatically reduce the interest you pay each month and reduce your payback time.

Just remember to never pay more than you can afford.
