Why does it sometimes take months before the case has been fully resolved?

We will try to defend your business by forwarding your information to the card issuer. However if their cardholder still disagrees with the charge the dispute may continue between us and the card issuer and occasionally the Card Schemes will be asked to arbitrate. This means that occasionally a dispute can continue for several months but we will always ensure that our actions are within the time restraints set down by the Card Schemes.
