With the new way banks are helping protect you from fraud, you’ll sometimes need to confirm it’s you when you pay for things online – whichever credit or debit card you choose to use.

You can request a PINsentry card reader by calling us on 0333 200 9090. Please allow up to 10 working days for it to arrive.

Here’s how you can use it to verify your online purchases:

1) Start by adding your Barclaycard details as your payment method (you may already have this set up). A window will appear on your screen. Choose ‘PINsentry card reader’ and hit ‘Next’. You’ll be given an eight-digit code that you’ll need in a second.

2) Slide your card into the PINsentry, chip-end first. Then press ‘Respond’ on the keypad.

3) Type in your card’s PIN into the PINsentry and press ‘Enter’. You’ll then need to enter the eight-digit code given to you by the verification window on your screen. Press ‘Enter’.

4) Your PINsentry will show you a new eight-digit code. Enter this into the space shown on the verification screen and press ‘Submit’. When you get the all clear, you’ll be taken back to the website to finish paying.

It’s important that we have your correct UK mobile number so you can confirm it’s you when you’re paying for things online.

Check that we have the right one using online servicing, the Barclaycard app or by calling us on 0333 200 9090.

Additional cardholders?

If someone else has an additional card on your account, they’ll need to confirm their online purchases using a text message or PINsentry card reader. Make sure we have their correct UK mobile number by using Barclaycard online servicing or by calling 0333 200 9090.

Confirm it’s you with a text message

If you prefer to use text messaging, we can send a one-time verification code to your mobile. You’ll then need to enter this into the payment screen to confirm it’s you.
